Lake Competitions Video

Lake Competitions guides you into the world of freediving. Not in the normal world of freediving between fishes and corals, but to the athletes, the competitors. The documentary goes all the way through. From beginning freedivers with their difficulties during their first dives, showing the differences between sea and lake up to training in front of a competition. Here the different training techniques and the different style of a lot of apneists can be followed. From outdoor location to indoor pool training is the next part. A short overview about static competition, as breath-hold diving is called, guides to the final - the deep diving lake competition. Here not every dive is successful and not every athlete can bring up his or her tag, as the plaquette is called which is picked up at the final plate to show that the diver was down. You also will see when something went wrong and the freediver comes up unconscious, having a black out. But in the most cases the performances are successful and the divers can celebrate. Close up images give a good impression of the diving techniques are used.

Jock Ferreira, an experienced spearfishermen and freediver takes us on his underwater experience off the Eastern Cape - South Africa. This video offers an excellent insight into spearfishing in this region, in particular hunting in poor visibility and shark infested waters using the electronic shark repellent (or Shark POD). This is a documentary that follows an exploratory expedition into Equatorial Guinea. A team of divers, fishermen and conservationists explore "post oil" Equatorial Guinea in order to establish viable locations for tourism nodes with regard to SCUBA and big game fishing.

The most efficient way to do this to freedive and spearfish the entire coast. The result is an action packed film filled with awesome spearfishing sequences. Watch Jeremy Williams and Steve Ellis hunt Cubera Snapper in green jungle water, giant Barracuda under oilrigs and huge Wahoo in the indigo water on the offshore islands. Other fish featured are Jack Crevalle, Black Kingfish, Yellowfin Tuna and Indian Mirrorfish.

The majority of the locations had never been dived before, and this meant a real life voyage of discovery!
